What is Cold Laser Therapy?
Using low levels of light, cold laser therapy is used to help stimulate the healing process. During a session, a device about the size of a flashlight is used that emits different wavelengths of light. The lightwaves are typically between 600 and 700 nanometers (nm) or between 780 and 950 nm, depending on the degree of treatment required.
The lightwaves are directed at a specific part of the body and the tissue absorbs the light. The light then causes a reaction which stimulates regeneration of the skin cells. The process is painless and you won’t feel any vibration or heat. Sessions last only a minute or two, again depending on the level of treatment.
Cold Laser Therapy is used for:
- Muscle strains and sprains
- Tennis elbow
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Knee, ankle, and heel pain
- Spinal pain and sciatica
- Wound healing
- Skin Conditions such as acne scars, burns, and dermatitis.
This treatment is an effective way of treating a variety of issues, but should only be used under the direction of a physician or chiropractor. Because it is non-invasive, there isn’t any recovery time. For the best results, patients should expect between eight and 20 sessions.
